Your journey begins the moment you arrive in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, a vibrant and culturally rich valley surrounded by hills and ancient heritage sites. At Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from your trekking company and transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle.

After check-in, you can rest and recover from your flight or take a short walk around the nearby streets. In the evening, a detailed trek briefing will be conducted where your guide will explain the full route of the Upper Mustang Trek, safety rules, altitude awareness, weather conditions, and essential packing advice.

If you have free time, you can explore Thamel, the main tourist hub of Kathmandu. This area is full of trekking shops, restaurants, cafes, money exchange centers, and cultural vibes. It is also a great place to buy or rent last-minute trekking gear. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Today you travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara, one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal, located beside a peaceful lake and surrounded by the Annapurna mountain range.

You can either take a tourist bus (6–8 hours) or a domestic flight (25–30 minutes). The drive is scenic, passing through rivers, waterfalls, terraced fields, small towns, and rolling green hills. The flight, on the other hand, offers stunning aerial views of Himalayan peaks.

Once in Pokhara, you will feel a noticeable change in atmosphere. The city is calm, clean, and relaxing, with Phewa Lake as its centerpiece. In the evening, you can walk along Lakeside, enjoy mountain views reflected in the lake, and relax in cozy cafes. This day is mainly for preparation, final gear check, and mental readiness for the trek. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Early in the morning, you take a scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, flying between two massive Himalayan ranges—Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. This short flight is one of the most exciting parts of the journey.

From Jomsom, your trek begins along the Kali Gandaki River Valley, one of the deepest gorges in the world. The landscape changes dramatically here, becoming dry, windy, and desert-like compared to lush green regions of Nepal.

After a few hours of walking, you reach Kagbeni, a historic gateway village to Upper Mustang. Kagbeni is famous for its ancient monasteries, narrow stone alleys, prayer flags, and traditional Tibetan-style houses. It feels like stepping back in time. Today you officially enter the restricted Upper Mustang region, which requires special permits. The trail gradually climbs through barren landscapes, rocky cliffs, and riverbeds shaped by centuries of wind and erosion.

The environment becomes more rugged and dramatic, with red and brown cliffs surrounding the valley. You pass small settlements and enjoy the peaceful silence of this remote region.

After about 5–6 hours of trekking, you reach Chele, a small village located at the base of rocky hills. The views of the surrounding cliffs and deep valleys create a strong impression of Mustang’s unique geography. Overnight stay in Chele.

Today’s trail is more challenging as you cross several small passes and climb steadily in altitude. The path goes through narrow cliffside trails, deep canyons, and dry river valleys.

You pass villages like Ekle Bhatti and Samar, where traditional stone houses and small fields can be seen in contrast to the dry landscape. The scenery is constantly changing, making the journey visually very interesting.

As you gain altitude, the air becomes thinner and cooler. After 6–7 hours of trekking, you reach Syangboche, a peaceful settlement surrounded by wide Himalayan landscapes and silence. Overnight stay.

Today you continue through the heart of Upper Mustang’s desert terrain. The trail passes ancient chortens, prayer walls, and mani stones, reflecting strong Tibetan Buddhist influence.

You cross Yamda La Pass (3,850m), which offers stunning panoramic views of Mustang’s rugged valleys and colorful cliffs. The landscape here feels almost like a high-altitude desert with deep cultural roots.

After around 5–6 hours of trekking, you reach Ghami, one of the largest villages in Upper Mustang. It is known for its long mani wall, traditional houses, and peaceful environment. Overnight stay in Ghami.

Today’s journey is culturally rich and visually dramatic. The trail passes through dry valleys, ancient trails, and famous red cliffs of Dhakmar, which are considered sacred and visually striking.

The route is peaceful and less crowded, allowing you to fully enjoy the silence of Mustang. You will also pass small monasteries and prayer flags fluttering in the wind.

After 5–6 hours of trekking, you arrive at Tsarang (Charang), a historic village featuring a large ancient palace and monastery. The cultural atmosphere here is very strong and deeply connected to Tibetan Buddhism. Overnight stay.

This is one of the most exciting days of the entire trek as you approach the legendary capital of Upper Mustang—Lo Manthang.

The trail crosses Lo La Pass (3,950m), from where you get your first breathtaking view of the walled city below. The sight of Lo Manthang surrounded by desert mountains is truly unforgettable.

After 5–6 hours of trekking, you enter Lo Manthang, a historic walled city with whitewashed houses, monasteries, royal palaces, and deep cultural traditions. This is the cultural heart of Mustang. Overnight stay in Lo Manthang.

Today is dedicated to exploring the ancient kingdom of Lo Manthang. You visit important monasteries such as Thubchen Gompa, Jampa Gompa, and Chode Gompa, which are rich in ancient murals, statues, and Buddhist teachings.

You can also explore nearby villages, interact with local people, or take optional horse rides to hidden caves and viewpoints. The region is filled with history, spirituality, and unique Tibetan-influenced culture.

This rest day also helps your body adjust after several days of trekking. Overnight stay.

You begin your return journey, but through a different scenic route. The trail passes through dry valleys and important cultural landmarks, including Ghar Gompa, one of the oldest monasteries in Nepal.

This area is spiritually significant and surrounded by peaceful desert landscapes. The red cliffs of Drakmar create a dramatic contrast with the blue sky.

After 6–7 hours of trekking, you reach Drakmar, a remote village known for its unique scenery. Overnight stay.

Today’s trail continues through windy valleys and open landscapes. You pass small settlements, ancient trails, and wide barren hills.

The environment is peaceful, with very few trekkers on the route. After 5–6 hours of walking, you reach Ghiling, a quiet village with traditional houses and beautiful mountain views. Overnight stay.

Today you start descending gradually as you leave the higher Mustang region. The landscape slowly changes, becoming slightly greener and more fertile.

The trail follows old paths and river valleys, passing small villages and prayer monuments along the way. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you reach Chhusang, located near the Kali Gandaki River. Overnight stay.

This is your final trekking day in Mustang. You continue walking through the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing small villages, wind-swept plains, and traditional settlements.

The trail is long but relatively easier compared to earlier days. After 6–7 hours of trekking, you arrive at Jomsom, a windy mountain town and important gateway of the region. This marks the completion of your trekking journey. Overnight stay in Jomsom.

Early in the morning, you take a scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, flying between towering Himalayan peaks. From Pokhara, you either fly or drive back to Kathmandu, depending on your schedule.

As you return, you carry unforgettable memories of remote landscapes, ancient Tibetan culture, desert mountains, and spiritual monasteries.
