The Gokyo Lakes Trek is one of the most spectacular trekking adventures in the Everest region of Nepal. This remarkable journey takes you through traditional Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, alpine valleys, and the breathtaking turquoise lakes of Gokyo.
Unlike the classic Everest Base Camp route, the Gokyo Trek offers a quieter trail with equally stunning Himalayan scenery. The highlight of the trek is the ascent of Gokyo Ri (5,357m), one of the finest viewpoints in Nepal, offering panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and countless Himalayan peaks.
The trek also explores the pristine Gokyo Lakes, the world’s highest freshwater lake system, located within the protected area of Sagarmatha National Park.

🗓️ Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m) → Trek to Phakding (2,610m)

Your adventure begins with a thrilling mountain flight to Lukla, one of the world’s most famous mountain airports. After meeting your trekking crew, begin trekking through beautiful Sherpa villages, forests, and suspension bridges.

🗓️ Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Trekking time: 6–7 hours
Follow the Dudh Koshi River through pine forests and cross several suspension bridges. Enter Sagarmatha National Park before making the final ascent to Namche Bazaar.
On a clear day, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Mount Everest.

Optional hike: Everest View Hotel (3,880m)

Overnight: Namche Bazaar

🗓️ Day 4: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole (4,110m)
Trekking time: 5–6 hours
Leave the main Everest Base Camp trail and head toward the quieter Gokyo Valley. The trail passes through rhododendron forests and alpine landscapes with spectacular views of Ama Dablam and surrounding peaks.
Overnight: Dole

🗓️ Day 5: Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4,470m)
Trekking time: 4–5 hours
Gradually ascend through yak pastures and small settlements while enjoying increasingly dramatic mountain views.
Machhermo is famous for stories of the legendary Yeti and offers beautiful views of Cho Oyu.

🗓️ Day 6: Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4,790m)

Today’s trail passes the first and second Gokyo Lakes before reaching the stunning turquoise waters of the main Gokyo Lake.
The village of Gokyo sits beside the lake with magnificent mountain surroundings.

From the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the vast Ngozumpa Glacier—the longest glacier in Nepal.
Return to Gokyo for rest and exploration.
